Gas Tank Replacement

I need to replace the gas tank on my 78 Scout. I have the emissions outlets on my tank, and they are plumbed. Do I need to get a tank with those outlets, or can I get a tank without, and just plug the leftover hoses?

I would go with the emission style tank. What is wrong with current tank? If it is a leak the sealant in the link below will fix it permanently. It is Mil Spec fuel tank seal and it works great. I have a old fuel tank on a 54 year old tractor that was cracked and I tried brazing it a few times (after purging tank) and it would last a few years then crack again. I used this stuff on it about 15 years ago and it has not leaked since. You can even apply it to a leak wet with fuel. It is great stuff!

Hey again SnoMan. Thanks for the tip. The biggest problem is that this scout sat not running since 1999. They left gas in the tank, which now looks like thick tranny fluid. There was a lot of black tar type build up on the sending unit, and it is all over the inside bottom of the tank. One small hole in the top of the tank where someone drilled through the bed. I can get a polyethelene replacement for $170 or so, and to get this one cleaned and re-coated would be between $250-$380. I am going to look into renting a media blaster, and someone told be about some stuff called B12. I guess it is supposed to clean this tar stuff up pretty well.
