I have a 1994 chevy blazer (the last year & 2 door)i have replaced the engine with 350 h.o. gm performance crate engine.  msn ignition, gibson headers, motorvation chip, b&m tranny shifter, 4.56 limmited slip rear gears, 4.56 in front, 36 micky atz, throttle body spacer, and dual electric fans.         when i had the new engine put in the tranny was supposed to be rebuilt.  after it blew @ 200 miles the second time i got it back it only had 4th gear teh third time it had no bell housing, so im not sure that it even was rebuilt.  it is now leaking from the t-pan.  it was fine and has about 2000 miles on it. after sitting for a week it just sprang a leak.  of a steady drip.         i would think that i could chirp the tires with this 330 hp engine and all the extras not that i have tried more than twice.  and weeks before this leak.  looking for a replacement tranny.  should i go stock (i have a cooler on the way and already have a t temp gauge).   i live @ the beach and drive it often.  it seems to over heat if i go slow in 2wd or in 4wd @ 25 mph.  but it will crawl over anything.  and is unstopable except for overheating problem.       ANY HELP OR SUGESTIONS??????????

the 4.56 gears are still a bit tall for the 36's it's hard on the OD. I have yet to see a busted bell housing from normal useage..thy may have dropped it or not had all the bolts out when pulling it out, also when reinstalling it could have not been lined up on the pins when they drove a bolt home with the air gun.

It should burn rubber, I have a stock 245 hp 350 that will do narly burnouts with a 3spd auto 36" tires and 4:10 gears.

what is ment by a "bit tall"?   no the bell housing didn't break they just forgot to put it back on.   and this is one reson that i havent found a decent mechanic in the area.  i have been to many other "repair and or engine shops" and they seem to think i dont know anything.  i dont claim much but i can do some things i just have no garage on the count it is the beach

thanks mud they were supposed to put a new torque converter and rebuild the tranny but from the problems 3 times repaired and 2 obvious times one with no bell housing and the other only having 4th gear just a glance under the truck or a drive around the block would have made it obvious they missed something my trust in local shops is shot. any ideas on replacement?

you must be refering to the dust cover...missing.

tall meaning your only turning 1936rpm @65...right at the start of the convertor stall. this all creates heat

a cooler for sure is a wise idea.

Well first of all, How are you plumbing tranny fluid cooling? Does it go through radiator tank first than aux cooler? it should. Second sometimes too big a cooler can hurt some because it restricts return oil flow. On the engine cooling, loose the electric fans and get a serious clutch or flex fan. Electric fan do not have the ability to move real serious amount of air. To do so it would take 5 to 10 HP at times which cannot be done on a 4x4 because it would have to draw over  300 amps to do it. Electric fans look good on paper but lack in severe cooling needs that only a proper engine driven one can do.  One more thing, as Mudd suggested, 4.56 is really to tall a gear with your setup and you should be running at least 4.88 or maybe 5.13 because that tranny has a real tall OD. ALso on wanting to chirp the tires, you have a 4L60 and the sprags and planatery drum splines are too weak for repeated hard shifts. They will fail in time unless you upgrade them.

the electric fans are fantastic.(not trying to diss your vast knowledge) when they kick on you can see the engine temp drop almost instantly. on daly driving the tranny temp is not a problem.  when you all the load of 4wd on the beach only the tranny gets hot.
with this should i upgrade or replace the entire tranny (due to the lack of shops in my area) if replacement is needed do you have any sugestions as to what tranny?  or sprags  and splines.
as for as the gears i dont think any lower gears will fit into the stock rear axle or the front ifs pumpkin.
thank yall for all your insight this has been the most help ive gotten yet.   its tough being a gear head (although a novice) in a place where it takes an hour to get to civilization.

As you have seen they can only deal to light cooling loads not heavy ones. THey are okay on small cars with low cooling needs because of low average HP but not on a 4x4. I have three 4x4 here and all have serious engine driven fans and my newest, a 2000 K3500 keeps it cool no matter what I do with it. Never seen it at or above 210 since I bought it new even when towing very heavy trailers in traffic with A/C and temps in mid 90's and above. It takes some serious air flow to do this and electric fans simply cannot do this because to move 15 or 20,000 CFM under some back pressure (ehich exist because of flow rate) cannot be done with a electric one unless it draws several hundred amps. On gears you can go to a 5.13 in front and up to a 5.57 in rear.  ALso if you run sand a lot, 5.13's would reduce tranny loading a lot (get RPM up quicker and off heat making stall) as less tranny torque will be needed to move. I think you efforts and money would be better spent with 5.13's that trying to beef tranny up more. Sand sucks power off and deep gears help a lot here.

unfortunatly i wish i found yall earlier.  before i bought the 4.56 gears.  well you live and learn.  ill look for 5.13's  i do however want to replace this tranny.  it has given nothing but problems and as i said earlier there are no reputable tranny shops within 2 hours of where i live.  tci has a good websight i found another sight......
