IVe got a 92 ish toyota 1/2 ton pickup extended cab with v6, 5 speed stick and 4wd, i broke the front independent differential on last off road trip and now instead of fixing it, i want to do a solid axle swap. What i need to know is what front axle to get. I heard front axles from 80s toyota trucks are the norm for solid axle swaps into later yotas, are their any variances between the front axles or did toyota use the same solid front axle for all 80s pickups. ALso will Dana 44 from a jeep work? I dont really know much about yotas, im more of a chevy full size truck guy so ecxuse my lack of knowlegde. Any help is appreciated, thanks..

simple swap would be toyota pickup.. axles all the same gears may be different but most likely 410s front axle will be shorter than your 92 rear 2inch wheel spacers will work fine hope this helps....

No matter what it's going to take some fabrication... so may as well go with a 44..

Not sure I agree with this. Toyota axles are strong for their size and truck does not weigh much. Unless they are planning to put a much bigger engine in and/or much bigger tires, the stock axle should do. That aside, they would also have problem with finding a D44 with correct width (though a old IH Scout axle might work and they had 44's in front and rear)

I bought an 83 solid front axle from yota pu as the 84 and 85 toyota axles are more expensive cuz they have bracing. But yeah yota axles are pretty strong for theri size and the truck has stock motor but with 35 inc tires is all. I did find out i need to widen front width by 2 inc to macht rear so thats on the need to buy list. As for fabrication it will proabley minimal as im using a sas kit. Thanks guys ill keep u posted.

The IFS rear axles are actually 3 inches longer than the previous axles, so you'll need to get 1.5" spacers on each side of your new axle. Also, in case the axle has no calipers or rotors or if you just want to upgrade, you can use the larger (relative to the pre-86) calipers from your IFS with FJ-60 Cruiser rotors. MarlinCrawler.com has the rotors and tells a little about it. Good luck with the build.

haha i ripped the side gears to shreds in my stock differential, but i think i might approach this diferently. i once saw a land rover axle worked underneath another formerly IFS '89. i think it was off a similar vintage range rover, not positive though, i'll investigate that further, just don't be a moron and try the old hack n'flip method, if the pumpkin is on one side, don't think it'll work to invert the mounting because the truss work that stregnthens axles will be useless upside down and you won't get proper lubrication.
