d60 & d44 differences

whats the sure fire way to tell a d60 & d44 apart? i think the d44 never came only accepting 3 u-bolts is this right? i'm buying a truck and i'm going on pictures to tell me if it has a d60 front or not. any tips?

the knuckels are bolted vs the pressed ball joints of a d44.

Looking at cover plate end of pig, the diff housing is 12 inches tall from top to bottom with a D60. A D44 is a bit under 11.

dodge 3/4t....didn't notice what year it was, it does have a d60 in the rear for sure.

it's a 76 or 78 and i bid on it like a fool cuz i saw only 3 u-bolts in the front and thought it was a d60. mud set me straight on that tho now nobody's bidding on it and i think i'm gonna get stuck with it. only $250 tho so at least it ain't much.

That year Dodge had a D44 in a 3/4 ton (if it is original axle) and it has the "nasty" wheel bearing hub design and I would stay away from that axle completely. 1 tons that model year had a D60 up front but even then I would tend to shy away from the bearing /hub design used then and would use it only if nothing else could be found.
