frt axle actuator. the old one is heat activated,(gray pot metal body) about 10-15secs. to engage. get yourself a replacement one that is black plastic(bigger body) actuator...it screws in place of the old one, but you also need to buy the harness (75.00)it plugs in to the actu. and run the brown wire to the middle wire on the t case switch... when you pull the stick it is engaged right now not secs later and away you *** no waiting!

yeah keith, that is a good way to go, with the updated actuator, many people still have trouble with them though, especially with getting them hooked up correctly. in the beginning, some dealers will even tell you that it won't work.

i guess if someone dont know how to hook it up correctly take it to a dealer to do....when i was a Karl Tyler chevrolet in missoula montana we replaced them on a regular basis..we'd probably do 5-10 p-ups a week over the years i was there. i think pretty much all 88-98 k p-ups are changed over....mine is changed and never had to wait or any problems

The main difference is that 98 on style is servo powered and is powered to engaged and disengage so it needs a extra control wire/upgrade. With old style if you shut it off in 4wd, it disconnects because power hold it in. (it also loads electrical system with a constant 12 to 15 amp load too when in 4wd) With new style it stays engaged until to power it out of engagement and draws no power when engaged to keep it there either.

exactly, you'd be suprised at the number of people eho can't get them to work properly though, and some dealers are less than helpful.

I have never done the upgrade myself but it will need a extra control wire and a switch or relay to feed it too. In theory it is pretty simple but I guess it bogs a lot of people down. There was 3 styles of them too. One from 88 to 91 or 92, another from then until 98 and 98 to present. The first two are heat actuated.

the upgraded actu is the same for all 88-99 k series p-ups part #26060073...the harness (now there is three difft. options for harness so youll have to tell the year)this one is for 1993 and closer years part #88959465 i can get the actu for $108.03 and the harness for $54.38 at my local chevy dealer just remembered that the new actu comes w/a round plunger to put in first then screw the actu in the hole (if someone has trouble finding the hole you'll need to put some hair around it!) lol
