i was told you can make a 377 chevy but i cant remember how. i know you put a 400 crank in a 350 to get a 383 and i think you put a 350 crank in a 400 to get a 377. or is it the other way around? i'm not sure but i do know i've been told about a 377 before. help!

i think its the 350 crank in a 400 block. heres the formula i use, Bore X Bore X Stroke, X 0.7854 X 8, so 4.00x 4.00x.3.76 X.7854x 8 = 377. YOU CAN MAKE SOME INTERESTING NUMBERS!

thanx naughty! yeah a buddy of mine told me about this a while back. he builds race engines and he was trying to talk me into all these crazy high rpm motors. i told him all i want is torque and the 377 is what he told me without hesitation. and i'm pretty sure he said 350 crank in a 400, maybe with a bore or something too i dont remember.

well, it's not really a torque monster, just an over grown 350. I have one and love it, the 383 has more torque potential than the 377 but start talking rpm and horsepower the 383 gets dusted. thats a 400 block 4.125 bore and a 3.48 stroke vs. a 3.75 stroke and a 4.030 bore.

Try a 400 @4.125 bore and a 283 crank @ 3.00 stroke, makes a 320 ci engine, cant figure if longer rods will make more power, but it sounds like it would scream,,,Maybe,if not maybe good candidate for blower, a lot of bore to fill...dont think anyone makes a crank like that though and then 283 bearings wont fit, maybe

The torque difference between a 377 and 383 is nil. It is more a factor of cam, timing and induction than anything else here with these two.

A 377 because it uses off the shelf parts. You just get a 400 crank and rods and turn mains down to 350 main bearing size and use stock 350 pistons. A crate 383 uses different parts and some of which are non standard. It is the longer stroke and shorter rods that give you more torque, not the extra 6 cu of a 383.

GM has an engine block called the LSX, ittle go to 480 ci, in a small block pkg!

It is not good for sustained high loads because of cooling issues with block and head but it okay for quick 1/4 mile blasts.

I would not be against such a build at all. I think it is a great build. You need to use a 400 SB damper and flywheel or flex plate too because the 377 like 400SB is externally balanced (so is 454 and 8.1/496 and 502) I would suggest a Competition Cams 260 grind to go with it and shoot for about 9.5 to one or better CR and use 89 or better fuel and you want about 34 to 38 degrees of total spark advance at WOT by around 3800 RPM if you want best power. (if you cut corner and try to use cheap gas you will have to compromise timing and power.

i only ever run 93 octane anymore so thats not an issue at all. so all that is involved is putting a 400 crank in a 350? anything else i need to know?
