i have a uniden 40 channel and a 4' rear mounted ant. thinking about getting one of those micro radios (evreythng in the handset) the wife is complaining about a lack of heat on the passenger side. chopper, you can mount your ant. in the bed, i'm not sure how it would affect the recieving ability....most of the surface area recieves while only the tip area transmits. stay away from the twin mount, unless you can get them 8' apart. like mud said earlier, if you want the look, just hook up one. nice thing about that is if you break one, you got a spare.

yeah that sounds like an idea, thanx chariot! mud said i should use a 5 1/2 foot whip for best results and i'm wondering how that will compare with the mirror mount antennas as far as performance?

i have one of those lil hand held jobs. it's a radio shack model i think. anyway it works great and you can run the hand held length antenna or hook up a big antenna. it stays in my wifes 03 durango, that way there is no perm. instalation.

the antenna needs to be out in the open, between the roll bar and cab isn't such a good idea. mirror mounts are ok they have a ground plane issue, forget about those duals unless one of them is for looks, I mount mine on the drivers fender with a mount that bolts to the fender bolt between the hood and fender in the crack. you can see it in the pic in the 79 4x4 thread of kevmann's also the wilson lil will magnetic mounts are awesome stuck up on the roof.

i didnt mean between the cab and the roll bar, i mean on the inside edge of the bed by where the roll bar comes in close proximity with the bed. like a foot behind the cab, what do you think about that?

yeah, you can go with that. or if you decide to do the mirror mount, pick up a grounding plane, that's what it's called. it's a piece that goes on at the base where your antenna goes, then the antenna mounts on top of it. most of them have 3 posts that screw into it. they work well to solve the grounding issues with mirror mounts. i don't think radio shack carries them, but the major truck stops do, they're usually on the wall with the antennas and assessories.

I recomend the fender or on top of the roll bar, except it'll be hitting things.

you can mount it closes to the windshield, about the same distance as your am/fm antenna. i've seen guys running around here with setups like that. a mechanic that i used to deal with made his own mount that he bolted to the fender lip under the hood. it was a pretty slick setup, he angled it away from the hood, so the antenna was right over the fender and he ran the co-ax thru the hood gap.
