can you guys recomand what axels and gears i might need to do the job i don't want to slow it down on the road to bad also the trans. is the 700R4 i heard that 1 ton axels would work but it just seams that i would have to make a lot of mods to make it work or is there a kit i am kind of new to the big truck with big tires deal and thanks for the reply

If your gonna pound on it a d60 up front, 14 bolt 10.5 or a 14 bolt 9.5 out back, turning the 38.5 tire is gonna take at least 5:13 gears, which works well with the 700r4 still allowing you a good cruise rpm in OD with out lugging the motor. If you're not into differential swaping don't go over a 35" tire, even then you need 4:88's and the 1/2t rear end won't hold up long. this is where a six lug 9.5 14 bolt comes in, without the gear swap the 700 will be the first to fail, then a tranny swap may be in mind although the same thing will happen to the 350 and a 400, making a gear swap the cheapest way and the right way to begin with.    o, if I sound like a jerk, well I just act like one sometimes I'm not really..LOL.

well i don't mind the swap and i think i can get a deal on the d60 and the 14 bolt 10.5 i found but the swap is it fairly simple for a guy with some wrench hours under his belt like my self are will i need a cutting torch and weilding machine to get the job done if you know what i mean

no torch or welder required for an axle swap, the only issue will be the rear driveline length, depending on the height of the lift.

Ok, unless your lazy and just burn off the ubolts, LOL, the shackle bolts may need some persuation also.

chopperfreak2k1:

The front spring perches are the same spacing on 10bolt, D44, and D60, but to put in a D60 you also need the bigger spring plates and (3)U-bolts and (2)bolts.  In the rear, the 10.5 14 bolt FF out of a 3/4 ton will have the same spring spacing as a 1/2 ton 10 bolt or 12 bolt.  A 10.5 14 bolt out of a 1 ton has the spring perches narrower, and those would have to be relocated to bolt into a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton.
