I have a 2001 Dodge 2500 with the 5.9 CTD H.O. I drove the truck to work and back today, everything was fine and operated normal. I went to leave again and my truck died in the driveway. I have a diagnostic tool which I used to find trouble codes P0230, P0602, P1693. I have identified the first 2 but the third is not in my Haynes manual. The first two deal with the transfer pump and the ECM. I checked for power @ the transfer(lift)pump and got a little over 11 volts. I put my hand on the transfer pump and had a friend turn the key to the on position and I can't feel or hear the pump run. Did it give up or what? What is the P1693 code? Anybody? Oh yeah, I drained the fuel filter canister and the lift pump is not filling it back up. I have heard if the lift pump goes out @ highway speeds it will burn up the injector pump. My truck was idling when it quit. Did I possibly get lucky and spare the injector pump?

You might have gotten lucky this time, the 99-2001 Dodges have a very bad problem of losing the lift pump which in turn takes out the VP44. Replace the lift pump and install a BD fuel warning light,if you don't already have guages, it runs about 65 dollars but worth every penny. The VP44 runs about 1500 or so to be replaced. If your interested give me your zip and I will get you a shipped price for it.
