well mine ran just fine for a couple months till my dad took it off of me for not paying the payment.and there were plenty of witnesses who rode in that truck and can testify that it did turn 7500 regularly.

GM1tonOfFun:
I used to wind my mostly stock 400 up to 5000 RPM often, a couple times close to 6000 RPM.  7500 RPM takes a lot of performance parts to make it live.

SnoMan:
I raced a few 400's many many years ago and 7500 RPM is not possible without some exotic after market parts. (I have see a few blow a little over 8000 with some very expensive aftermarket parts) It will come apart before then otherwise. One of the big reasons for a 350 crank in a 400 block is that it allows for longer and stronger factory or aftermarket rods and better rod angles and reduced piston velocity/inertia stresses on crank shaft, rods and pistons.

That is for sure.  The cost of the parts needed to build one to live at that RPM has kept me from building one.

I seriously doubt this. My guess is that tach was set to a 6 cyl and it was turning about 5700 RPM which is far more believable. 400 SB's just do not rev that high without a LOT of very expensive after market stuff and even then you have to be careful. Stock it might make it close to 7000 once and that would be it.

well you guys might be right about the tach, like i said i didn't build it but make no mistake it was built. that damn truck was awesome! i lost it about 12 years ago and there people to this day that i don't even remember that will come up to me & say "hey man do you still have that truck?" i never added one single thing to it so the tach may have been off but for a guy to put that much money into it and have the wrong tach? anyway i'll agree to disagree.
