Minesweeper and Old Chinaman Gulch

A few weeks ago, I bought a set of wheels with Staun internal beadlocks from InstaGator. This week I put 37" IROK swampers on them and mounted them on my Wrangler, so naturally we had to try them out. Yesteday was a nice day here in CO, so my buddy Glen brought his jeep Fido (as in, Roll Over boy!) and we ran Minesweeper and Old Chinaman Gulch. Here's a few pictures.

Minesweeper Trailhead. Red wrangler is mine, the other is Fido.

This is Glen walking Winch and Go, the first obstacle on Minesweeper. Yes, it is as steep as it looks, and yes you do get more off-camber as you climb the steps with your left side only. Significant puckering ensues.
Steepness

Me starting up. This is one of the rare cases where a picture really does give you a feel for how steep a trail is.

Near the top.

Glen elected not to attempt the obstacle, with his short and narrow Jeep. So we headed back down and went to Old Chinaman Gulch
Here we are at the trailhead.

Fido got a little too much flex and spit the front driveshaft out of the slip joint.
Fido Carnage Here!

A few minutes to fix that, and we were off to the waterfall.
Waterfall - the hard line.

I got a little off-camber here.
Tippy!

Just a few examples of what we do for fun here. You can see more on my web site. Just check the trails database at www.4x4trails.net

Nice pictures! Those wheels look almost as good on your jeep as they did on my truck  Just kidding hehehe The nice thing about them is that you can air down to zero psi and the wheels will not pinch the tires. I hope you enjoy them, I'll be getting another set soon. Also, when I get a group together to head out there I hope I can count on a certain someone for getting us to the good trails?

They have a little rock rash on them now, which I think makes them look even better. And anytime you (or anybody) is in the area, I'd be delighted to show you the areas of Colorado you cannot see from the ingterstate.

FYI, a friend of mine is in the pre planning stages of a ride to your neck of the country. We have a tenative guide set up who said he is going to take us high enough to see snow in the middle of summer. I'll keep you updated. Maybe we can hook up and the RTCC alumni can represent. Should be a couple of Ultimate Adventure guys on this trip as well.

Sounds like a plan. There are plenty of places where you can find snow mid-summer.
My "normal" work week is Thurs-Sat nights, so the first part of the week is ideal for me. But with some advance notice, I can generally find someone willing to swap shifts. The heicopter does not care which of us is in it.
Any idea, even tentative, what trails you might like to run, and when this might happen?

As far as I know, it will be sometime in July or early August. I imagine it will be mid week wheeling for us since it will take at least 2 days worth of driving to get there and then back. I am confident that we will have all the details worked out by March/April. I'll be sure to pass the info on as it becomes available.

Any preliminary ideas what part of the state you want to wheel?

My truck has recently been described as both "Boring and Mechanical". And I love it!

I am very happy with how the Wrangler has turned out. It's only my second off-road build, and pretty ambitious, I think, to go with a frame up build, leaving nothing from Jeep but the frame and sheetmetal.
I did go back and edit the original post. The photos could not be seen because of the way this site crunches things up in the non-ad space. And they just don't look right shrunk down to fit in that space. So I took out the photos and just put in hyperlinks to my site.
So... when will the mag be announcing the return of RTCC?
