I've been trying to come up with ways to make my 2000 silverado 1500 solid axle front end. Now this is just a random idea I just wanted to see what others thought of it. I have a 1986 k-5 blazer, now what if I cut the frame off of the blazer just before the cab, the same with the silverado and somehow integrate the k5 front frame onto the remaining siverado chassis? This way there wouldn't be any solid axle conversion kit at all it would be like it was supposed to be solid axle. Do you think this would work or is it just a dud of an idea? Just curious.

dude that would be a huge challenge and a mess, and probably way not worth it, but if you do it I would love to see pics of it ha ha

Just a thought, but if I decide to tackle the beast I will keep you in mind

This would not work. Not only will it not line up well frame rail wise or style but the height different relative to body mounting are way different too.

Leaf spring mounts are not that incrediably hard to fabricate... a little math, measuring and marking and it'll go smoothly... just be sure the solid mounts are perfectly square with the frame... now... as for other options... you could make it a 3-link or a 4-link for about as much difficulty... and i know they make various kits for it... just do some reasearch first...

oh... and don't go cut happy with a torch or plaz... you'll either warp your frame or get things out of alignment for when you setup the new axle... if you have to cut out any cross memebers tack in a temporary ones around it first to maintain frame spacing, rigidity, and everything else... if you go to the Spiketv website and then to the Extreme 4x4 show page they'll probably have some back-logged episodes about other such solid axle swaps... even if they are on different styles of vehicles

Yes the spring bracket fab is not hard, the hard part is making sure that there is enough frame to support them properly.

you definately dont need to swap the front of the frame, I put a solid under a 93 2500, just takes time. left side diff and used a wheel to wheel steering set up just like a teraflex for a TJ wrangler. I also bumped into one in Yakima, WA about six weeks ago basicly the same. they swaped in a 205 and right side diff. wasn't to happy when he saw me crawling out from under it either.
