Even with the GM Dana 60 front there are two different versions; one with thicker tube thickness and thicker Knuckles.  That was even pointed out in an article on Four Wheeler or Petersons 4Wheel & Offroad with in the past couple years.

It would be interesting to cut up some old/damaged axle housings (hate to waste a good one) used in various Detroit 4x4's over the years and see exactly what the "meat" difference is in housing "pigs", axle tubes and knuckles.

It would be very interesting indeed.  Sounds like a good future article for Four Wheeler or Petersons 4Wheel & Offroad to research and publish.  Giving us identifing indicators for all of us to go by.

We use stock housings all the time . Your saftey limit comes in around a 44" bogger or a 46 inch claw which is lighter and less agressive  , however with upgrades such as Yukon or superior axles and 35 spline outters the axles are pretty tough. The housings are usually thinner in the dodges but the norm for a 60 axle tube is 3/8 .Housing strength mostly becomes an issue when jumping. They're still strong but trussing helps .

This blazer pushing 700hp plus a 250 shot of nitros seems to work . In the video he gets stuck because his hydro ram was ripped off.
