I've got a 77 Jeep cherokee with a 92 dodge W-250 drivetrain in it... yes it's got the cummins... but everywhere i look i can't seem to find a definitive answer on which tranny/transfer case i've got... there are no longer any tag's on either... so i'm thinking that someone serviced each and removed the tags... any identifiers to look for that will tell me which i've got... i'm hoping i've got the NV4500 and an NP205... it's the manual 5 speed and part time transfer case... top to bottom pattern on the transfer case is 4low all the way forward followed by nuetral, 2HI, and 4HI...

Dodge used 205 with that engine thru 93. It is easy to ID by a large cover on rear passenger side with secured with 8 bolts. Also it had a NV4500 but be advised the those early ones (up to around 96) were prone to problems with 5th gear due to retainer design. This problem was unique to Dodge 4500's. My bigger concern is the weight of a CTD on that front axle. If it is stock Jeep it is surely overloaded.

With the t-case you want to look and see if there is a small cover with three bolts securing it. This small cover will be on the back of the t-case, in the center. The large cover that was mentioned is also found on the np203

Yes that is for the idler gear/low range shaft in 205, the 203 does not have that.
