ive read and heard that solid axle chevys have a problem with the frame around the steering box cracking while using it for off roading. Is this true? will the frame crack only if im really hard on it ,ie "40 inc tires, big hp and rockkrawlin" or is it just a matter of time before it cracks even though im only running 33 inc tires. Is a steering box brace like one by ORD worthwhile?
solid axle chevys cant be beat 78 K5: 350 V8,700r4,np208, 8 lug D44 4:88, 14 bolt 10.5 4:88 with detroit locker and 35 inc parenelli jones dirt grip tires

If you have big tires and rock crawl and such (thing that place a lot of stress on steering), it is just a matter or time before it cracks. It is best to beef it up before it does. 67 thru 72 was a little less prone to this because GM changed and notched out the top of the frame rails in 73 for extra engine/manifold clearance and different mounting of body.
