2000 XJ w/ 4.5" lift, SYE kit and rear CV shaft but the t-case has a very bad shake between 20-45 mph. Take off front shaft it goes away. Had the front shaft rebuilt didn't help. Dealer says driveline angle problem and to get adjustable upper arms and rotate axle. Local garage thinks maybe front output problem but would have to send t-case out for work or send front shaft out check for balance. Closest 4x4 shop (long ways away) says don't rotate axle (stock D30) or get death wobble so replace it w/ a D44 (I ain't made of money here). No one thinks high-angle front shaft will help. Wife is *^ssed at me since lift has cost me probs and more $, but it sure looks sweet. Little help? Ideas? I'm frustrated.

XJ's have short drive shafts and do not take kindly to big lifts with steep drive shaft angles. Your "sure" cure here is going to be CV's in both drive shafts on both ends of shaft. You DO NOT want to rotate axle up as it will create caster problems and a whole new can of worms. The only way to properly rotate front diff is to cut axle tube loose from pumpkin and rotate pumpkin up and then re-weld axle tubes to it. You can rotate rear axle though without any real problems.

Check out NAXJA those guys are the XJ kings.
in my opinion you should try a motor mount lift. inexpensive and cures driveline problems. you can also get the drive line re balanced too.

Now how is that going to work???? If you lift front of motor to reduce rear drive shaft angle, you increase front drive shaft angle doing it. Bad idea.

Its the Axle. You have a LP dana 30. The cheapest way out is; drive around without the drive shaft. The next (correct) way out of your dilema is snag a HP dana 30 out an earlier model. Do your research! That not a common occurance but it does happen from time to time. Like Kevin said, go to NAXJA you'll find anything you wanna know about your XJ. Lata!

It is strictly a pinion angle thing. CV's on both ends would cure it. Also I think it would be cheaper to cut welds and rotate pumpkin on current axle than to get another HP axle.

It is not a question of being wrong but rather the most cost effective way to fix it. XJ's have short drive shafts and can be fussy about lifts. CV's would cure it (that is why they use CV's on FWD cars because they are smooth at higher angles)

Thanks for the input folks, sorry it took a while to get back and check responses, daddy and work duties kept me away from the computer. I'll check into this NAXJA thing (never heard of it) before I pay dollars for a front shaft but I have been thinking of calling for a dual CV. As for rotating the pumpkin, yeah, I gotta seriously shop for a good welder. Thanks guys (and girls if any).
