I have a 2001 Dodge 3500 Dually, with a Skyjacker 4.5" lift and 305/85/R16 Buckshot mudders on it. There is alot of play in the front end. There always was even when brand new and stock. I burn up the front tires in about a year. I have had verious people look at it and attempt to fix it with no success. I hope somebody can help me with a possible fix.

Let me guess, it has a CTD in it too. Dodge had a lot of problems from later 90's to 2002 with D60 front axle under the CTD. (prior to that the D60 used had tapered roller bearings rather than ball joints/studs of the later ones) These problems were namely premature axle ball joint failure from the weight of the 1300 lb motor. The was aggravated further by lifts and big tires. In 2003 Dodge quietly switched over to a AAM axle with a stronger housing and beefier knuckles and ball joints to better deal with this problem that they never really admitted that existed anyway. If you plan to keep this truck, I strongly suggest that you look for a front axle out of a 03 or later truck in a bone yard and it is a lot stronger and will hold up better with your engines weight and lift.

I am not running custom rims, they are the stock rims. I have a 2" spacer between the rear rims for the tires not to rub. The tires by the way are not 33", they are 36". I got the wheel spacers from National Wheel and Tire.

your saying 36 inc tires fit on stock dually 6.5 inc wide rims, i was always told the stock rims were too skinny for anything over 285 wide. Have u noticed any unusual tire wear besides your front axle problem? What are the wheel spacers made of and how much are they? Thanks

Okay no wonder you are having issues. Those big tires with their added leverage together with the 2 inch spacer and the heavy engine up front is straining that front axle a lot. The tire size and spacer shift load center much further out in relation to axle pivots and in effect REDUCES true axle load capacity. If you plan to stay this course I would get either a 03 or later front axle for a Dodge or look around for a D70 front drive axle (the 03 and later axle will be easier to find) I know to some that those engines are great but the problem is that the motor in your truck was designed to be in a 2 ton truck with a 7K front axle and when you stick that heavy engine in a P/U and add big tires and spacers it can spell trouble.

Yes, they fit on my stock rims. In 2001 they were 16" rims. No, I have not noticed any unusuall tire wear. I am very pleased with how the back tires are wearing, they have been on the truck for 2 yrs. now. The tires are Buckshot Mudders, the old style. I get them from National wheel and Tire. The wheel spacers are aluminum. I'm not to sure of the price, but I belive it was a couple hundred bucks. No problem. I'll get a picture of the truck online soon. '
