I have a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado Z71. About a week ago went 4wheelin and when I put in 4wd(shifter in floor) it seemed to go in fine but the second it went into mud it got stuck and the light went out on shifter and the front tires never pulled. Checked fuses and they was good. Any ideas? Thank you

The front axle thermo actuator would be my first choice. They are very prone to failure with age.

It is on the front passenger side of front differential. It is very easy to spot.
