22RE swaped over to 22RTE(factory turbo)

hey whats goin on guys this is my first time and ive got a question i have a 1990 4x4 toyota truck with the 22re and i have purchaced an 86 22re turbo motor was just wondering how much trouble i would be going through swaping them out or if its even posible i have the computer the wireing harness the only thing i didnt have was the radiator if anyone could help it would be greatly aprieciated

You will want to gag the turbo when offroad to get immediate HP. A pop-off valve and an intercooler would be a necessity. You will also need to provide adequate venting for the extra heat. Definitely protect the turbo from impact with rocks and flammable objects like dead leaves and grass. Don't let it get caked with mud either.

well i planned on making a bash shield for the turbo only cause the factory toy turbos are hard to find but thanx for the reply

Gagging the turbo will be necessary to help overcome turbo lag. turbo lag is the time it takes for the turbo to spool up once you hit the gas. on stock engines this can take a few seconds wich can make alot of difference on the trail. first the engine has to create enough vaccuum to close the wastegate then the turbo begins spoolin up. with it gagged it will be spinning at idle. instant HP gain. a popoff valve is necessary to dump the boost when you let off the accelerator to prevent blowing gaskets and engine damage. an innercooler cools the hot compressed air before it enters the engine to prevent pre-detonation.

In my experiance with swaping Toyota engines it will be best to swap the ENTIRE harness from the donar vehicle into your truck. I have swapped a 22r for a 22re for a 7MGTE and each time it needed the original harness to work correctly, even from the 22r to 22re. So I would imagine the 22ret would be the same.
I'm not saying it is totaly necisary, but it will make your life a lot easier, unless you like tracing wires and trouble shooting problem engins.
