Well I liked the RUSSIAN and CHINA 4x4 ing..COOL Go more places..even CANADA EH its alot different up here, and most US readers dont know whats up here!
Keep Using your lift..dont endanger your life by using jack stands, thats totally dumb!  I dont mind paying money for my truck to go onto a lift, or for a qualified person to install..then its DONE RIGHT!  Use AIR TOOLS too..you will wind up a old cripple PULLING WRENCHES!  i have air tools!  If you only have $300, then stay home..i cannot stand know it alls who have NOTHING! Get a JOB and but a REAL TRUCK! It COSTS MONEY..why endanger yourself and others bringing JUNK out!  JUNK BELONGS IN JUNKYARD!

i want to see OFF ROAD TRUCKS...not 2wd highway trucks! that buildup of a white CHEAP chevy was a waste of space.  Dont like the seat...well shoulda bought a better one?

Make it a prerunner with a lift and big tires..thats OK..but changing the taillights???hello?? and worrying about the stereo.. my truck has an AM RADIO, 1 speaker and i like it like that!

I would subscribe to a STEREO MAG if I want info on stereos...and CRUTCHFIELD is NOT the place to go either!!

Is this thread even still read by the staff? I agree with the last 2 posts.

Well first off, I would like to know, what awesome 74 was refering to as junk? I bought my old Bronco for $300? I've put alot more than that into it though. My 33"x15.50" Baja Claws cost more each than my truck. The Edelbrock 650 cfm w/ offroad needle cost more than my truck. The 2 Optima yellow tops and 140 amp alternator cost more than my truck. The new fiberglass fenders and hood cost alot more than my truck. The lockers cost more than my truck. Even my stereo cost more than my truck. 4 tanks of gas cost more than my truck! But you know what? My $300 truck takes me to work every day, takes me fishing, takes me hunting, takes me all the way on the trails, and always brings me home! Sure it may still have a few rust issues around the rear fender wells, but what old Ford doesn,t? Besides, thats only because I haven,t gotten around to fixin that yet. Wich I will do myself, because I see no reason to spend my money (wich I feel is better spent on parts and my family) paying someone else to do something that I can do myself, usually in half the time (because I don't need a coffee or cigarette break every 15 min), and do to my specifications, wich I believe are much higher than OEM or DOT standards, because it is my family in the passenger seats not some mechanic or government official. I really enjoy pulling all these so called "REAL TRUCKS" with all these high dollar mechanic installed parts out of these little mudholes that do not even make me and my piece of junk bat an eye.

Now awesome 74, before you go on the defensive. I'm not saying that you were definitely talking about any truck in particular. My definition of junk is a new truck with IFS and a multi thousand dollar lift, that doesn't do much more than "make room for larger tires and wheels". These trucks will never be true "off-road" trucks even if they do have that sticker on the rear quarter panel.

While your definition of junk maybe newer rigs with IFS and other street biased options, I think Awsome is refering to rigs that are barely running and are breaking down every time out because of dumb stuff the owners did not want to fix because it would cost a buck or 2. I can tell you I get bothered when someone shows up with a ill running rig and becomes the focus of the ride 15 minutes in. 2WD's have there place as well. Following me is not that place.

I would rather they follow so I do not have to wait for them. Luckily most of the places I wheel are in no way accessible by 2wd's. Although I have seen a fwd car do pretty well!LOL!!! It had buckshots on the front?

Just so you know, we still read this thread. I don't disagree about the 2WD Chevy, just so you all know.

So since you guys read this, how about opening up the Tents & Trails ride to a few readers? If you think you and Brubaker can annoy eachother, wait until you get a few readers in there.

How about a budget buildup of a 93' to 97' Ford Ranger. This includes keeping the Dana 35 TTB front axle, 8.8 rear, and the 4.0 V-6 engine. Also stay with a 15" wheel. Do this for the wheelers out there that don't have a lot of money to throw into a truck.

I think that is a great idea and I am a TTB guy myself, problem is that we already have a Ranger project that is winding down and there are only four of us with a huge list of projects currently. We have Teal-J, JK Project, H3 Project, Baja Bomber, Mega Titan, Everyday Titan, RangeRunner, Frontier Project, and some on the horizon. Fact is, there just aren't enough of us or enough pages to get everything in. I will keep your suggestion inmind, though.

In response to you guys requesting old iron build-ups, we have a project that may return that you all will like. Keep the ideas and suggestions coming, they are great.

BTW, the reason we test Suzukis and the like is because, just as some of you mentioned before everyone is a novice at some point and not everyone can afford an expensive rig, right? Well Suzukis and Kias are still true 4WD vehicles, are economical and allow us to showcase an entry level vehicle  that someone can afford to get in to the sport of wheeling. We don't discriminate against vehicles, because the info is helpful to someone. And whoever said our Toyota tests are unfair, please tell me why, I would love to respond.

I'm not an expert in journalism, but I have an idea for an article or 2. Take a new truck and compare it to it's former self. Maybe a '07 vs. a '97 vs. a '87 vs. a '77. That way everyone can see firsthand how far trucks have come in the last 30 years. Possibly some of the great features of old that we have lost due to a need for a more highway and economy friendly vehicle. As well as the new creature comforts we take for granted such as 8 track vs. compact disc, 6 speaker sound vs. a single in the dash, efi vs. carburetion, etc, etc, etc. Maybe even horsepower comparisons. Compare the expense of modifying an old rig vs. a new one. These are just a few ideas that I think would give everyone what they want to see, wether they like old iron or new.
