Oh wait a minute they were all General Motors.

That may be true, but they were all distictly differant trucks! (well.. maybe..)
It's to bad the new Ford Superduty wasn't out in time to make the test, for no other reason than to add more variety to this years test.

Sounds like a stacked test to me. GM could not loose that one. Test should have been done AFTER that other models were avaible, not before.

I would have liked to see how well the new Toyota Tundra would stand up to the homebred competition.

You guys are right. But... the rules of the test are very simple and have been so since its inception.
The Tundra release got delayed, Ford passed on sending its new Sport-Trac, the new Superduty was not available, and Nissan hadn't made enough changes to the Titan. So that left us with an all GM field.
I can say though that if everybody plays, next years test is going to be a good one!

Thanks Jason.
Guys, I explained this in the story, those were the only three trucks that a)qualified b)were available. Unfortunately it was a slow year for pick-ups, however, next year's field will be HUGE. As of right now we'll have Titan, Super Duty, GM HD, Ram HD, Tundra and a few more I can't discuss.

Now Sean, hope you do not mind me addressing you by you first name. To say you can't discuss sounds suspicious. Either that is because you have some inside scoop we shouldn't know about, or that is because it may not be a sure thing. Let's face it you pretty much named all the full-size truck manufacturers out there except Honda. So all that statement accomplishes is leaving us in a great deal of suspense.

Sure, you may address me as Sean. And yes, there are many things we know about 6 months to several years in advance that we can't discuss because of agreements we have in place with the manufacturers. Sometimes it is an inside scoop and sometimes it is things we know aren't a sure thing, or we know it is a sure thing but we don't know the timing. Some of the examples of products we saw in advance and had input on are the Dodge Power Wagon, Hummer H3, Jeep Commander, etc. If the company invites us in early enough we can comment on styling, but more often than not we will help fine tune the vehicle. BTW, you said I mentioned all the full-size manufacturers - PTOTY is not limited to full-size, other companies may have trucks on the horizon, and some manufacturers might have more than one truck entered. Don't you like suspense? :0)

BTW - Let me reiterate, winners are NOT bought/stacked/rigged/whatever. I, myself have developed and revamped the current scoring system to make it fair and best represent the reader. The Touareg won right before I was promoted to FW, and that in itself said we needed a change. This year the Wrangler won, so if that doesn't show our scoring was changed for the better and is headed in the right direction, I don't know what does. Scoring and writing the story is something I labor over every year.
Also, the test is scheduled for the same issue every year with the same on sale date and other criteria. If we waited for each new vehicle you wanted to see to come out, we'd never test anything. Those that missed this year's qualification date will be tested in next year's test, this is how we have always done it and will continue to do it.
